Taping is an easy and cheap way to temporarily support or adjust load through the foot in the short term. It’s an excellent way to test what load change the foot will respond to and therefore support what you then do in an orthotic prescription. For example, if it responds to inversion of the calcaneus, then you will know you need to prescribe some rearfoot inversion control or medial skive in your prescription. You can also feel confident that if the taping has a positive effect, orthoses are justified as an appropriate intervention.
Tape is also great as short term support until the orthoses can be made.
